Sapt Rishi Ashram and Sapt Sarovar

A serene and picturesque spot 7 kms from Haridwar, this is where the seven great sages or rishis are said to have sat in meditation for the salvation of humankind. Their names were
  1. Kashyapa,
  2. Vashisht,
  3. Atri,
  4. Vishwamitra,
  5. Jamadagni,
  6. Bharadwaja and
  7. Gautam.
So intent were they in their meditation that neither hunger, thirst nor cold and hunger bothered them. The river Ganga, overcome by their efforts, split herself into seven streams so that the meditating Rishis would not be disturbed by the water flow. Hence the other name for this place which is Sapt Sarovar or Seven Streams.
